Gender, Distribution, and Balance of Payments Constrained Growth
نویسنده
چکیده
An unresolved debate in the development literature concerns the impact of gender inequality on economic growth. Previous studies have found that the effect varies, depending on the measure of inequality (wages or capabilities). This paper expands that discussion by considering both the shortand long-run, evaluating the effects of gender equality in two types of economies—semi-industrialized economies (SIEs) and lowincome agricultural economies (LIAEs). Further, it incorporates the effect of gender equity on the balance of payments constraint to growth. These preliminary results suggest that gender equality is more likely to stimulate growth in LIAEs than in SIEs in both the shortand long-run. JEL Classification: E1, F3, O4, J16.

Balance of Payment Constrained Growth in Tow Developing and Developed Oil-Exporting Economies (Case Study: Iran and Norway)
In this study, we aim to compare results of the basic and extensive forms of the Thirlwall model (balance of payment constrained growth model) for two economies including Iran and Norway. In this model, demand variables i. e. export and import determine the limit of economic growth in the long run. The balance of payment (deficit) can be a factor as a constraint on the rate of growth of output ...

متن کاملThe impact of technological specialisation on national performance in a balance-of-payments-constrained growth model
The paper explores the effect of technological specialisation on economic growth within a balance-of-payments-constrained growth model. We find that countries that are specialised in fast-growing technologies experience above average rates of growth due to the positive effects on international competitiveness. Moreover, we find that innovation, imitation and investment affect countries’ perform...
متن کاملEvaluating the Impacts of Balance of Payments Variables Shock on Selected Macroeconomic Variables Using FAVAR
International balance of payments is one of the most common criteria for measuring the flow of trade and capital transfers in an open economy. The three main components of this balance are: trade balance, current account (or difference between export and import of goods and services) and capital account. In this study, factor augmented vector autoregressive model (FAVAR) was used to evaluate th...

In 1979, Tirlwall introduced a model called the Balance of Payments Equilibrium (BOPE) model, stating that demand growth could be curbed by the balance of payments deficit, thus limiting further economic growth. The important point in examining the Tirlwall law is the important role of oil exports in providing foreign exchange resources and the important role of these resources in the balance o...
